Each month, the FSDB Career Development Department selects a Student Employee of the Month. Students in the after-school campus work program will be chosen based on their excellent work ethic in their respective paid positions on campus after school.
For the month of May, we are recognizing Marcus Guillou, a senior in the Deaf Department. He is an A/V Production Technician. Here is what his supervisor, Scott Botelho, had to say about Marcus:
"Marcus has really stepped up his efforts and has come through for me countless times in the past month. He's taken on last minute assignments, shows up to work on time, stays late when there is still work to be done even if he is over his hours, and is always the first one to ask what needs to be done. Marcus has done an exceptional job work with me doing Livestream, an amazing job backstage working with sets and props for the FSDB Dance Troupe production of West Side Story, and assisting in my other OPS position working alongside me and the other Recreation Staff for after school activities. He has done very well in balancing his work, school, and sports this year. He always gives me his all when he's able to work and listens and takes feedback very well and improves everyday with his work ethic and experience. I appreciate his willingness to work at a drop of a hat whenever I need him. Marcus has even driven himself to school on a day off when there were no classes and I needed help getting things ready for the show this month. He has been a valuable member of my Tech Crew and huge help with the work we do with the Recreation Department as well. He will be missed when he graduates. Thank you, Marcus."
Technology is something I am truly intrigued in as I'm fascinated by it. I wanted to take responsibility for my future, so obtaining a job was a good place for me to start. Additionally, I wanted to learn more about money management and having a job is a good way to do that.
It can be tough at times, but it's not impossible. My schedule looks something like this: from 3:30 to approximately 5:30 in the afternoon, I am usually involved in sports. After that, I usually work from 6 pm to roughly 8 pm. After work is when I focus on my schoolwork and any assignments I need to catch up on. It's doable.
I would highly recommend having a job here at FSDB if you can before leaving for the real world. This is an opportunity you don't want to miss as it's a big advantage to have for anyone my age. Getting a job here first will greatly impact on your potential of getting a job in the future outside of FSDB. It's fun to have a job as well.
Learning new things and new equipment that I have never worked with before will be challenging for me at first, but it won't be as challenging once I get the hang of it. The more I work on different equipment, the easier it gets.
For one, it's fun. Two, I like helping people. Three, it makes me decent money if I'm being honest. And lastly, I have lots of fun on the job and it's been a great learning experience for me.
I plan on going to Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. to major in two different areas: Physical Education and Arts/Graphic Design.
Acai bowls. I will never get tired of them.
People don't realize I can speak and hear pretty well. When I say hear pretty well, I don't mean familiar sounds around me, but actual spoken words too.
An eagle because they have really good eyesight and they can fly... And who doesn't want to fly?
