The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) invites the community to attend an Open House on February 12, 2019 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in Kirk Auditorium on the school campus. The event is free to the public and provides guests and visitors the opportunity to learn more about the only school of its type in Florida. Plan to arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the 10:00 am start time, to accommodate higher volumes of traffic coming to campus and to secure seats for your party.
“This is a great opportunity for our community members to see the outstanding educational programs and services for our students, and to learn more about the mission and purpose of FSDB,” said Rick Coleman, FSDB Parent Services Information Specialist.
The Open House will feature Outta Sight Band performances by students who are blind/visually impaired and Dance Troupe performances in American Sign Language by students who are deaf/hard of hearing.
Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A portion following the performances, as well as have a chance to mingle with the Dance Troupe and school faculty. Student-prepared merchandise by D&B Designs will also be available for sale. If you would like to picnic on the campus, be sure to bring lunch—be prepared for limited seating outdoors and the possibility of inclement weather.
Auditorium seating is limited and reservations are required for this event. Please contact Rick Coleman at 904-827-2227 or via e-mail colemanp@fsdb.k12.fl.us. Tailored educational tours are available upon request (as far in advance as possible) for families with children who are blind/visually impaired or deaf/hard of hearing. Due to the busy nature of the Open House we will be unable to offer campus tours on that day.
