James Hall News
Warm greetings to all our students, families, and staff.
January has been an energetic and memorable month at James Hall. FSDB proudly hosted the Clerc Classic Basketball Tournament, welcoming teams from multiple states to our campus for an exciting weekend of competition. Our Girls Basketball Team represented us with excellence, securing an impressive 3rd place. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication. In preparation for the tournament, the girls took the lead on a full dorm deep‑clean to ensure our visitors felt welcomed. Their attention to detail and pride in their living space truly reflected the spirit of our school. Students also created posters to welcome Clerc participants, cheer on the teams, wish them luck, and showcase the beauty of our campus.

Character Focus of the Month: Self‑Awareness and Self‑Management
James Hall girls are learning to recognize their feelings, manage stress, and respond to challenges with confidence and respect. These skills empower them to become strong leaders and positive role models. This month, we are also emphasizing time management, personal responsibility, and respect for others. Students are practicing signing in and out for activities, managing their individual schedules, and being considerate of the time commitments of those around them.

Community Service and Reflection
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., students spent time reflecting on his legacy of equality, unity, and compassion. We discussed the lasting impact of his work and how we can contribute positively to our school and local community. As part of January’s community service projects, students also prepared cards and treat bags for FSDB Police Officers in recognition of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
Reminders
Colder weather has arrived. Please ensure students return to campus with warm clothing for outdoor activities and transitions between buildings.
Looking Ahead
Students are gearing up for our annual Super Bowl party. They will enjoy the big game with drinks, snacks, and dessert while cheering for their favorite teams in a fun and relaxed environment.
Thank you to our students, staff, and families for contributing to a successful and inspiring month. We look forward to more wonderful moments and achievements as we head into February.
Rhyne Hall Newsletter
A Busy and Exciting Two Weeks in Rhyne Hall
The past two weeks have flown by in Rhyne Hall. Even though it was a shorter stretch due to early release, our students enjoyed an action‑packed schedule as FSDB proudly hosted the Clerc Classic, a major national basketball tournament. With seven out‑of‑state deaf schools visiting campus, the energy, school spirit, and excitement were incredible. Students loved being part of such a nationally recognized event.
Life Skills and Curriculum Highlights
Over the last couple of weeks, students have been deeply engaged in real‑life learning, focusing on self‑advocacy and responsible decision‑making. Lessons centered on:
Understanding personal values and setting healthy boundaries
Using confident communication when boundaries are crossed
Navigating peer pressure and uncomfortable social situations
Practicing safe and clear responses if offered drugs or alcohol
Recognizing the dangers of bringing drugs or alcohol to campus and understanding how responsible choices keep the dorm community safe
Students explored what matters most to them, how their choices reflect their goals, and how to advocate for themselves respectfully. Discussions included analyzing conflict scenarios and identifying what strong, healthy self‑advocacy looks like in everyday situations.
A particularly enjoyable activity was the creation of 2026 vision boards. Several boys designed inspirational boards while sharing their hopes and future goals. The activity combined creativity, reflection, and goal setting in a fun and meaningful way.

Character Focus of the Month: Self‑Awareness and Self‑Management
This month’s character education theme has centered on self‑awareness and self‑management. Students have been discussing:
How thoughts influence actions
How actions affect others
Techniques for staying calm, focused, and in control
Recognizing personal strengths and identifying areas of growth
These conversations will continue throughout the month as students build confidence and develop practical tools to navigate daily challenges.

Community Service Corner
Our student leaders have been brainstorming new ways to support and uplift others within the FSDB community. Current projects include:
