Character Trait of the Month: Citizenship

Citizenship continues to be our focus this month, and our students are showing it in action every day. From keeping shared spaces clean to helping one another and cheering on their peers, they are building habits that strengthen our dorm community and prepare them for life beyond school.

Empowerment Curriculum Spotlight

This month, our students participated in an exciting Empowerment curriculum trip to Publix. With curiosity and enthusiasm, they learned about job opportunities and workplace responsibilities. Deaf employee Travis and manager Sydney gave an inspiring presentation and tour. We hope this experience sparks interest in future employment possibilities for our students.

Sports Update

As fall sports wrap up, our students are already looking forward to winter sports, especially basketball and wrestling. We are proud of their dedication and team spirit. A special shoutout to our FSDB football team for their Homecoming victory against California School for the Deaf, Riverside. Go Dragons!

Academic Focus

With the end of the first quarter approaching, students are working hard to finish strong. They are balancing academics, sports, and dorm responsibilities with impressive focus and determination.

Dorm Life and Recreation

Daily life in the dorm remains vibrant and engaging. Students enjoy bowling, socializing in the Dragon’s Lair, and rallying behind FSDB sports teams. The beautiful September weather has made outdoor activities like basketball even more enjoyable.

Upcoming Events

Our recreation department is planning a Halloween trip to either Adventure Landing or another location. Once details are confirmed, permission slips and ticket information will be sent home. We hope your child will join us for this spooky and fun outing. Please keep an eye out for the permission form.

Reminders for Families

Please continue sending enough snacks and drinks to keep your child energized throughout the week.

With the wet season here, pack a raincoat, jacket, and extra clothing to help your child stay dry and comfortable.

Thank you for your continued support. We are proud of our students and excited for the adventures ahead.

Gregg Hall Updates

Character Education

Our students explore a different character trait each month to support their personal development and relationships with others. In October, we are highlighting Honesty. This month, our girls will learn that honesty means being truthful, sincere, and dependable, even when it’s not the easiest choice. They are already beginning to see how being honest builds trust, shows respect for others, and helps create a safe and supportive community. We are proud to support them as they grow into thoughtful, trustworthy individuals who understand the importance of honesty in everyday life.

In September, we focused on Character. Students learned how their values and actions shape others’ perceptions and help build meaningful, respectful relationships. We are thrilled to recognize Annayska as our Character Student of the Month for September. Congratulations Annayska!

Dorm Life

The students of Gregg Hall took part in a safety workshop with the Campus Police Department, where they showed great interest and asked thoughtful questions about safety. They also enjoyed Spirit Week and Homecoming, showing their school pride with their art and face paint. Although the weather sometimes kept us indoors, the girls made the most of their time together. They enjoyed movie nights with popcorn, played a variety of games, and had a wonderful time bonding as a group. We also explored creativity through crafts such as sewing, beadwork, yarn projects, and jewelry making. Some girls have even learned how to wire wrap and drill through rocks to make one-of-a-kind pieces! These activities gave the girls an opportunity to develop patience, creativity, and fine motor skills while having fun.

Independent Living Skills

This month has been full of growth and fun for our middle school girls. We are so proud of the way they continue to learn, support one another, and develop new skills. The girls have been practicing independence by helping with cooking and preparing desserts, learning how to serve others, and showing responsibility through their daily duties. Overall, it has been a joy to see the girls grow, laugh, and enjoy their time together in the dorm. We are excited to continue building both life skills and happy memories with them.

Friendly Reminders

As we prepare for our upcoming Halloween activities, students are welcome to bring a costume (please no horror themes or weapons).
