Character Education

Each month, our students explore a character trait that supports their personal growth and helps build healthy, positive relationships. This January, our focus has been on

Self‑Awareness and Self‑Management.

Throughout the month, students learned to better understand their emotions, identify behavior patterns, and reflect on the personal strengths that shape who they are. Our girls practiced managing their emotions in healthy ways and taking responsibility for their actions when challenges arise.

Student of the Month

We are thrilled to recognize Laina as our January Student of the Month.

Congratulations, Laina, on this well‑earned honor!

Dorm Life

January has been a busy and productive month at Gregg Hall. Here are some of the activities our students participated in:

  • Dorm Deep Clean:

Students worked together to complete a thorough cleaning of the dormitory in preparation for the CLERC Tournament.

  • School Spirit:

The girls attended an off‑campus trip to cheer on the middle school basketball team. Congratulations to the team on their win!

  • Life Skills in Action:

During a group outing to a Mexican restaurant, students practiced reading menus, placing orders, and calculating meal costs.

  • Kitchen Confidence:

Students continued strengthening their measuring, cooking, and recipe‑following skills in the dorm kitchen.

  • Independent Ordering:

During a visit to McDonald’s, students practiced ordering, paying, and picking up food independently.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We appreciate everything you do to help our students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

McLane Hall News

As we move into the second half of January, our boys have fully settled into the routine of dorm life after the holiday break. They continue to shine in many areas, playing outside, socializing with friends, staying engaged with homework, and participating enthusiastically in after‑school activities. Their growing independence and maturity are evident, and we are proud of their progress.

Character Education Focus: Self‑Awareness & Self‑Management Self‑Awareness

Students have been practicing how to:

  • Recognize their strengths and areas for improvement

  • Understand their emotions and how those emotions influence decision‑making

  • Reflect on how their actions affect others

  • Think intentionally about the kind of person they want to become

We have seen many boys pause, reflect, and make thoughtful choices during interactions, academic work, and daily routines.

Our students have demonstrated growth in:

  • Maintaining grooming routines and taking pride in their appearance

  • Staying organized with homework and managing their time effectively

  • Completing evening dorm duties and following posted schedules

  • Keeping their rooms and shared spaces clean

  • Balancing schoolwork, recreation, and rest

While reminders are still occasionally needed, their independence and consistency are improving steadily.

  • Attending basketball and wrestling games

  • Spending time with friends

  • Working out or playing indoor basketball

  • Weekly trips to Walmart, Target, or Costco

  • Stopping for treats at McDonald’s, Chipotle, or similar spots
