Welcome to Fall! Favorite fall associations include seasonal activities like visiting pumpkin patches, football, apple picking, and corn mazes, as well as traditions like hayrides, Halloween and Thanksgiving celebrations, and bonfires. As temperatures cool, please send in a few extra layers of clothing for your students.
Fall traditionally marks the beginning of Cold and Flu season as well. Check with your home provider about Flu shot recommendations for your student. Students with the Flu must go home.
Growth and development, scoliosis, and vision screenings will begin this month per state statute. We will be sending home notifications to K, 1st, 3rd, and 6th grades. Parents/guardians are permitted to decline these screenings in writing.
Our Healthcare Center remains a wonderful resource that, in addition to acute health concerns, provides basic dental services, care coordination, Pediatric Developmental Clinic (for ADHD/behavior management), Psychiatry, mental health services, low vision clinic, PT/OT/ST and Audiology. Please contact your child’s care coordinator for more information regarding your student’s eligibility to utilize these services for the new school year.
October is National Dental Hygiene Month
Good oral hygiene is a part of overall health, since poor dental care can be linked to other serious health issues, such as heart disease and diabetes.
Practice good oral hygiene. The "Daily Four" recommended for good oral health is brushing twice a day, flossing daily, rinsing with mouthwash, and chewing sugar-free gum after meals.
Book a dental appointment. Use the month as a reminder to schedule a routine cleaning and check-up with your dental hygienist and dentist.
Thank your dental hygienist. Our staff hygienist, Sonja Gilbertsen, is on campus part-time to help with basic dental needs and coordinates the UF Dental Clinic. She may be contacted at 904-827-2418 or gilbertsens@fsdbk12.org
Please Send in as Soon as Possible
Signed 2025-26 Consent Forms (Adult students must sign their own)

Medications
An adequate supply of all prescription medications must be available while your student is on campus. Please monitor for needed refills prior to your student returning to school. In some cases, students may need to return home to ensure their safety until their medications become available. Prescription medications must be sent to our pharmacist in the original labeled bottles. Signed physician orders may be faxed directly to our pharmacist at 904-827-2428.
Clearance Forms
A Clearance form is required to return to campus after any Emergency Room visit, surgery, or hospitalization has occurred (including on weekends or school breaks). It may be dropped off at the HCC, faxed to 904-827-2421, or emailed to HCCRecords@fsdbk12.org, but must be received prior to your student's use of transportation or return to school. A student on campus without Clearance must remain in the Health Care Center until it is received. Parents may have to pick up their student from school if Clearance cannot be obtained.
Keep your student home if they exhibit any signs of illness
Students must go home for:
Positive Flu or Covid tests
Temperature above 100.4
Repeated vomiting
Illnesses or symptoms require more than 23 hours in TCU
Symptoms beyond the scope of HCC
Clearance not obtained
Critical meds not available
EMS 911 calls
We are here to supplement your student's care while at school, but we cannot provide primary care services. Please utilize your PCPs and specialists for routine and follow-up care for concerns beyond the scope of the HCC.
