About the Camps

Discovering Hidden Treasures in Florida

Students ages 6-13 will spend three days immersed in the hands-on experiences of creating a personal robot while exploring the varied career options in the Florida Robotics industry. Virtually visit the Florida Caverns State Park while experiencing geo-tracking, geo-caching, and growing crystals, maybe even eating a little "dirt"! On the last day, students will explore the Florida Keys, where they will learn about survival in the outdoors, make a do-it-yourself (DIY) solar oven and cook their snack for the day in it.

Learning Objectives:

  • Social/Emotional: Participate effectively in group activities

  • Career Education: Identify a variety of jobs and careers and possible accommodations for workers who are BVI or DHH

  • Recreation & Leisure: Identify and implement adaptive strategies for recreation and leisure activities to ensure active participation

  • Compensatory: Respond to and summarize the information presented auditorily and/or visually

  • Independent Functioning: Identify steps and ability to prepare food safely using adaptive strategies

Students will return from their Summer Florida Road Trip with more knowledge about Florida, rested and tired from their journey, and ready to explore more!

Searching for Sunshine & DIY Robotics

These two sessions will have the same topics as the Discovering Hidden Treasures in Florida camp but are specifically designed for a one-day sneak peek and developed for specific age groups.

3-5 year-olds will have a "Searching for Sunshine" get to know each other session.

14-17 year-olds will focus on the Robotics Industry and Florida career opportunities.

Space is limited and registration is required, so please don’t wait to sign up!

The registration deadline for all camps is May 31, 2021. This will allow us enough time to ship the required materials.

About the FSDB Virtual ECC Interactive Learning Series

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) is excited to continue our Virtual Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) Interactive Learning Series for children ages 3-17 who are deaf/hard of hearing (D/HH) or blind/visually impaired (B/VI).

Non-FSDB students* who have an active IEP with D/HH or B/VI as their primary exceptionality are eligible to register for these exciting sessions.

The virtual ECC sessions are available at no cost and all registered children will receive materials delivered to their homes for participation via live conferencing and engaging online classroom activities. An adult must participate in all activities with your child and register before the event.

Each lesson is themed differently and led by certified teachers with experience working with students who are D/HH or B/VI.

*This learning series is not currently offered to FSDB students.
