Third grade reading camps

The FSDB Blind and Deaf Departments will host Third Grade Reading Camps during June 2019, designed to provide intensive reading intervention instruction for students who did not show proficiency on third grade reading standards. Florida state statute 1008.25 requires students to show proficiency on the third grade English Language Arts Florida Standards Assessment (ELA FSA) to be promoted to fourth grade. Both camps involve three weeks of multi-sensory instruction in the areas of comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, word study, phonics, and phonemic awareness individualized for each student's needs. Students will practice reading comprehension strategies such as visualizing, summarizing, making connections, using context clues, and self-monitoring. Students will engage in a variety of fluency activities such as repeated readings, the Signed Reading Fluency Rubric, and poetry recitation. At the end of camp, all students will take the Stanford Achievement Test-10th Edition to determine eligibility for fourth grade promotion. Learn more about fourth grade promotion and good cause exemption. Note: Available only for eligible/currently enrolled FSDB students.
