Logan’s Fight to See a Future
At just ten years old, Logan’s world changed forever when a brain tumor stole his sight. The sudden loss plunged him into confusion and sorrow. For a year, he remained in a school unequipped to meet his needs, where his dreams of an education felt increasingly out of reach. It became clear he needed something more, something FSDB could offer.
In the fall of 2019, twelve-year-old Logan arrived at FSDB, carrying both fear and a flicker of hope. The unfamiliar sounds and faces he could no longer see reminded him of all he had lost.
Logan struggled. He couldn’t read his papers. He resisted learning Braille. He didn’t know how to move through the world without sight. He felt stuck. Then one teacher changed everything.
One afternoon, after a difficult class, Logan’s math teacher, Mr. Keller, pulled him aside and shared something deeply personal. “I was in your shoes,” he said, recounting his own journey through blindness. “He told me the path I was on was destructive,” Logan recalled. “He really cared. That moment changed my life.”
From that day forward, Logan chose to fight. He learned Braille, trained in mobility, and joined clubs like Debate Club, Ski Club, Young Life, and National Honor Society. These experiences helped him build confidence, independence, and self-awareness. He began taking college classes while still in high school, and he didn’t just catch up, he soared!
Fueled by determination, Logan rose to the top. He took advanced courses, excelled in college-level work, and earned the title of valedictorian. In 2025, he graduated from both FSDB and St. Johns River State College, becoming the first dual-enrolled student in FSDB history to receive the prestigious D. Causey Award.
Now, Logan is heading to the University of North Florida to study business. He dreams of becoming an accountant or financial analyst. “FSDB built me up from the bottom,” he said. “They gave me the skills and confidence to chase my dreams.”
To the generous donors, his success is your legacy, a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when belief meets opportunity.
