Today, our SOAR students built their own sample college schedules while learning about credit hours, required courses, electives, and prerequisites. It was a great hands-on way to make the college experience feel a little more real (and a lot less intimidating)!

This year’s theme, “Emerging Trends in the Field,” sparked great conversation during our panel discussion and luncheon, held in the beautiful and historic Markland House. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with Flagler juniors and seniors as they asked thoughtful questions about reducing interview jitters, crafting effective interview responses, and whether to participate in coaching or sponsoring a club during their first year of teaching.
Thank you to Professor Cheryl McCarthy for the invitation, and to Dr. Brennan Asplen, Superintendent of St. Johns County, and fellow district leaders for sharing your insights. It is always a joy giving back to the profession I love by supporting future educators.

Misty will be working with the middle school girls in the Deaf Department. She is eager to connect with the students and give back to the community. Having grown up as a student at FSDB, Misty learned a great deal from the staff and is now enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge and support with others.
"I'm looking forward to working with the students and staff!" Misty said.
A fun fact about Misty is that she loves playing volleyball and wishes she could still play.
We are so happy to have you here with us!

Amy will be joining our team as a Law Enforcement Officer. She looks forward to building relationships with both students and staff, and she is committed to helping create a safe environment. Additionally, she is eager to improve her ASL skills!
Outside of work, Amy enjoys spending time with her family, working out at the gym, and taking her dachshunds, Doodle and Leo, for walks on the beach. She is also a big foodie, often having a snack in hand. Currently, she is training for a Hyrox race next month.
We are thrilled to have you with us at FSDB, Amy!

In this project, students begin by either creating a 3D model of a plane or selecting a 3D asset within a modeling application. They capture a screenshot from a strong camera angle and import that image into a 2D animation app on the iPad. From there, they animate the plane using the Slow In and Slow Out principle to control acceleration and deceleration, making the motion feel more believable and dynamic.
This activity connects directly to careers in animation, game design, and visual effects. Understanding and applying the 12 Principles of Animation is a foundational skill used by professional animators across film, television, and interactive media. Mastery of these principles is essential for producing high-quality work at an industry level.

We are thrilled to recognize Melissa as our Student Employee of the Month for December! Melissa is an employee at Raymond’s Warehouse in the After School Work Program.
Here’s what she shared about her experience:
-Why do you want to work for Raymond’s Warehouse?
“I like the team and being able to help others. I enjoy gaining experience and knowledge from my job and I have learned a lot while on the job.”
-How do you balance your career and education?
“I do time management. I work on what needs to get done when I am not working so that way I can be fully focused at work. I have an online class and sometimes I will have a meeting with my teacher that will occur around the same time that I have to work so I make sure to communicate with my supervisor and inform them about my meeting with my teacher. Communication is important!”
-What advice do you have for students who want to work on campus?
“Work is not simple. You will learn a lot from the job and gain experience. Help others and reach out to others for help, we are here to support one another.”
-What are your plans after FSDB?
“I plan to join a program called Technology and Rehabilitation center. It is for VI adults. I want to gain and improve my skills and get ready for college.”
-If you could be an animal, what would you be?
“Butterfly!”
-Supervisor Comment:
“Melissa has an exemplary attitude – helpful and always positive. She provides excellent customer service, not just when getting the items requested but by chatting and laughing with the customers as they shop. She does this both in English and Spanish. Melissa’s consistent positive attitude uplifts her coworkers and customers every day.” – Michael Nease
Congratulations Melissa! Your dedication and positive energy make a real difference every day!
