FSDB Canoe Club was founded in 1968 by head sponsor Norman Oja, as shown in the first photo.
The Canoe Club has been running from 1968 to 1997. Many students and staff participated in the club. Once a month, they would go to Ocala Trail, Suwannee River, and other places. During the winter months, they would hike on trails all day instead of canoeing. On the weekends, they would canoe, cook dinner, and camp on the sites.
Many Alumni thanked Mr. Oja for being part of the club, as they learned so much from him. As of today, those alumni are still canoeing and hiking on the trails.
Mr. Oja retired from FSDB in 1988, and Mr. Brent Sendler took his place and continued with Canoe Club until 1997.

This is Wendy Pinkston, a Blind Middle School Math Teacher.
Wendy started her FSDB career in 1995. She had different positions within FSDB: Senior Residential Instructor, girls' Middle School Basketball coach, Assistant girls' Goalball coach, and Head Track & Field coach.
Wendy grew up around the school because her mom was a residential instructor in the deaf department.
"Working at FSDB feels like being a part of a family," shares Wendy.
A favorite memory here at FSDB includes being recognized twice by her peers as a teacher of the year.
One fun fact about Wendy is that she enjoys visiting different sports venues like Wrigley Field (Chicago Cubs), AT&T Stadium (Dallas Cowboys), and Cameron Indoor Stadium (Duke Blue Devils).
We love having you as part of our FSDB Family!
